February 24 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dmitriy Sergeevich Chernavskii (February 24, 1926 – June 20, 2016).
Dmitriy Sergeevich Chernavskii was a leading Russian expert in the field of interdisciplinary research and one of the founders of
self-organization theory. His long, fruitful creative life became an inspiration for many generations of Russian scientists. D.S. Chernavskii
worked continuously at the Lebedev Physical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences (LPI) for 65 years, joining the Department of Theoretical
Physics in 1951.
On his initiative, the Theoretical Biophysics Sector was established within the LPI Theoretical Department in 1972, which he headed until 2014.
These years were marked by the scientific community's recognition of the enormous importance of nonlinearity and computational experiments in
natural science. Concepts of "oscillatory ideology", limit cycles, dynamic systems, and the fundamental importance of quantum-mechanical
effects in biophysics are largely linked in Russian biology to the ideas, energy, and enthusiasm of D.S. Chernavskii. His works on
self-oscillations in biochemical reactions, electron tunneling in biological objects, and the "protein-machine" concept in the theory of
enzyme reactions have become classics. Dmitriy Sergeyevich played a crucial role in the development of self-organization theory, or synergetics,
in Russia. The dynamic information theory he developed within this approach, as well as his decisive contributions to mathematical economics
(econophysics), have proven remarkably relevant

During a meeting of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) on 23 December 2025, the Academy members approved the List of the RAS professors elected at the General Meeting of the Academy of Sciences.
- Deputy Director of the Theory Department at Lebedev Institute Konstantin Alkalaev was elected a RAS Professor in the Physics Division.
